New to this, seeking advice. was created by ohmegatron

I have no experience growing bonsais. I've always wanted to, and I've done some research into what needs to be done. I have a couple manitoba maples seeing in the back yard, and there's a few sprouts coming up.

I've done some research, and boxelder (manitoba maple) is the crest of my family name. My sister is getting married in september, and I'd like to bring her a small tree to grow as a bonsai. I'm wondering what kind of tree i can get from a two inch sprout in the ground now to a plant in a pot in september.

Any advice is appreciated.

Nothing. You cannot grow bonsai in months. It takes years or even decades.
In 3 months, you'll have a sapling that doesn't belong in a pot.

But you can start now and get them a nice gift for their 20th anniversary :)

You could pot it up in a good sized pot, and gift as a pre bonsai, but thats about all you can do with a seedling, but thats the fun of bonsai, training a tree seedling will take lots of time and patience, have fun and don't ket people discourage you! Its a trial and error hobby!

Yep. But not much for someone who is not into bonsai. I do not want to discourage the OP from growing bonsai, but I wouldn't advise to give one as a gift.
You wouldn't just give someone a puppy either.
