Pot it up fully (I would add more substrate).
Mist it frequently.
Keep the soil on the dry side.

It should be fine.

I have had pots break like this when wind blows the pots off, and when squirrels or other rodents knock them off. After sticking it in a pot, put it in partial sun for a while. Somehow the rodents seem to know which are the best pots. Two years ago they broke three out of five pots I got in Japan. Arghhh.

One with a lot of leaves blew out of the pot, leaving it on the bench, according to the teenager who was watering while I was gone. He stuck it back in the pot.

Usually the trees survive.

Start wiring your trees into the pot.

I did.

I also arrange things so that squirrels can't knock the little pots. When wind is coming I can see the forecast and move the trees. Sometimes I have felt like paying a guard to sit in back with a gun to shoot every squirrel and chipmunk in sight. I have found no way to prevent them.

Maybe a feeder in a different location could help. You can also make an infusion with hot spices to spray around the area where you don’t want them. Chili, cayenne, cinnamon is good choice.

I have tried a lot of things, cayenne pepper does nothing. I put little skewers around the edge off the pot and they moved them out of the way.

What works is cutting wire mesh with holes about half an inch with half inch little wires pointed upward and lining the pot. I am going to line the sides of the benches this fall, when the squirrels want to bury things in the pots.

Did you made an infusion with the spices, or just powdering around? The strong infusion worked for me very well (wit the 3 components) contrary of the dusting. The feeder also drived them on a spot on the garden where they couldn’t damage anything.
