So thought everything was going well and I come back from the weekend to see this on my desk. I'm about 2 months into this bonsai and still have a lot of reading to do about upkeep and care, but figured I'd ask my community. Any help?

If you really want to grow bonsai, get a plant for your desk. Bonsai do not survive there. Trees belong outdoors.

Ops, bad news!
Well, bonsai like fresh air, plenty of light, some dew, some rain, some wind.
And plenty of water, of course.
If your plant is lacking any of these items, or a mix of some, it dies.
As Auk has said, bonsai are little trees, and trees don't grow indoors.
