I have recently purchased a young Chinese elm. I believe it needs some gentle pruning. There also appears to be roots showing out the top of the soil- is this normal? Does it indicate the tree needs repotting? How would you go about pruning, it feels to me there are a lot of branches in one cluster and I’d like to promote a full canopy. Please advise! Thank you!

Could you please post a picture of the tree in question?
It helps a lot, thank you.
