Just got a seedling as a present from a friend that grows Bonsai.
It happens he collected these junipers seeds when travelling, and is not sure which juniper is this.
The little plant is 8 months old and is planted in a relatively good drainable soil; it feels soft to the touch, not prickly like horizontalis, and has foliage low down on the trunk, thanks to him cutting the taproot when it was sprouting.
Any hints as the species?
BY THE WAY, he says it's a juniper, but I am not quite so sure...

There are so many species and varieties... I will not pretend I know but a wild guess: juniperus scopulorum
Where was it collected?

Yes, this is really a problem when one has to identify young junipers.

I will not pretend I know but a wild guess: juniperus scopulorum

Thanks Auk, I'll take a look (Rocky Mountain Juniper, right?)

Where was it collected?

We have a range of mountains two hours west of São Paulo , 2.000m high; the microclimate over there is cold and european like. So one can find all sorts of conifers thriving there, and some nurseries sell a lot of pines and junipers for the properties around.

Yes, but I changed my mind. I think it is a Juniperus Virginiana

That doesn't help :)

Thank you guys, I guess we're getting closer.
As this now is the beginning of the growing season here, let's see in six months how it develops.
