I trimmed this ficus benjamina off of a bushy house plant I have in the hope to grow it as a prebonsai.
This is my first encroachment into bonsai.
When I started cutting I thought the bush would have separate taproots for each trunk, however it had a causes like bulbous roots, which I have, well cut straight through.

Is there anything I can do to these fresh cut roots to help them callus off and survive?

Also the height of the tree is about what i want to aim for, how can I trim to to aid branch growth and deter upward growth?
Should I do a quite high up trunk chop and hope it puts energy into branch growth?
Thanks in advance,
Cabi

it is unclear to me what you have done. Have you taken a cutting? Is this a branch without roots that you have stuck in the soil?

In order to get it to root, make sure there is lots of heat. Ficus are tropicals. If you are in the northern hemisphere, you have not taken an ideal time to do this. Put it on a warm spot, and cover with a transparant cover to keep humidity in.

Untill you have a happy and healthy plant which is well rooted, do not trim it.

Hiya thanks for the reply, I've split the root ball of a ficus bush and taken a trunk and then repotted it, so it has a large ( 7cm diameter) root ball still attached where I had cut straight down through the roots.

The white you can see on the side photo is the internals of the caudex root where i sliced through it (thinking it was standard roots.

Attached is the photo of the parent plant. The white at the bottom is the sliced caudex root.
