I have always wanted a Bonsai tree and I just received one as a gift. Of course I’m a beginner and I need to know what kind a tree I have. I assume it is some type of Juniper but may be wrong. Can someone help?

Very young, cut, but otherwise untrained juniper without anything that gives reason to call it a Bonsai.

Belongs outdoors

Haha thank you, I know it resembles a twig. This bring me to my next question. Where I live the average temp in winter is mid 30s, I don’t believe this tree is dormant. I’m afraid if I just throw it outside in these 30 degree temps it might harm it. What should I do?

30 degrees? That is pretty warm. I would give it some shade.

Junipers belong outdoors.
There is a very weird red mushroom growing alongside the cutting, have you noticed it?
