I am considering getting a starter tree to begin the process of learning this wonderful activity. I travel a lot and can often be gone as long as 5 days. I don't have someone who I can trust to water. Is there a species of tree I could get that would be ok with not getting watered for a week? Also one I will not kill to easily!

Its gonna be diffecult if you cant water the tree for a week.

Buy a jade tree and make a boom style. (Yes it is possible to do that)

An automated watering system for one tree is not too difficult nor expensive. I wouldn't recommend it for bonsai but sometimes I have to use it too for my ( 30) trees.
