This small juniper has been kept outdoors and exposed to all the elements of winter/snow, rain and sunshine since I received it as a gift a couple months ago. Most of the needles are light green. As you can see, I did the scrape test on the trunk and I do not see green under the bark. In comparison, my fukien tea bonsai has plenty of green right under the bark. Does this mean the juniper is dead? Thanks ahead of time for any answers.

Thanks for your response. When you say it is not a bonsai, what is it? Could it potentially become one with the right care?

When you say it is not a bonsai, what is it?

Just a young juniper with some lower branches cut off to make it look like a bonsai

Could it potentially become one with the right care?

.

Yes, with he right care it can become a bonsai. Shouldn't take much more than give or take 15 years.

Your first concern though is to keep it alive. Don't do scrape tests, it's not very useful and damages the young plant.
