Hello Guys,

I was gifted 2x chinese wisteria bonsai seeds and growth pellet in february. I'm sure you're mostly familiar with the set up, but just incase you're not, the pellet was a small disc which when you add water it expands and then you plant the seeds after soaking them and scarring them.

A few weeks later, the 2 seeds seem to be growing well in my conservatory and I have a few questions that aren't really touched upon in the instructions that came with the kit.

1 - 2 seeds in the same pellet that are growing together, will this be okay in the long term?

2 - The growth pellet is held together by this web like fabric, which I'm not sure if it's biodegradeable or not. When it's time to move this to a pot, shoudl I take care to remove this? Or will it be okay to plant in soil as it is.

3 - The instructions said to wait until they've grown 5-6 inches then move to a pot. However, I've noticed a root penetrating the bottom of the growth pellet, so I added some foam aroundthe bottom to keep the light out of that area ( I heard that roots like to be in the dark.). I've also noticed what might be a root trying to come out on top of the soil, perhaps the seeds were planted too shallow. I attempted to cover it with a little bit of the soil. Should I repot now, or wait?

The pictures attached are the same project, just a few days / weeks apart.

There is no such thing. Bonsai seed does NOT exist. Your plants are not starter bonsai, they are seedlings - healthy looking ones, so that's a good thing.

You can repot them, just move them to a larger pot, add soil, and you're done.

Try to remove that net very carefully - unless when it is degradable, then leave it as is.

I have used these pelets a lot; In fact, I have some 20 now in the window sill: I use them for my peppers and tomatoes. I find the outside degrades poorly. So yeah, consider removing it. The pellet will however fall apart.

Roots do not care about light. It is air they do not like.

I ould repot now. Yeah, two close together will be a bit of an issue. But you can remedie that also in fall/winter dormancy

Thanks for the reply. Regarding moving them to a pot; will I need to set the pot up with the metal wire and grid over the drainage holes like I see others do when repotting? Or is that only applicable after much much more growth.

Will just a larger pot with drainage wholes do?

Thanks

Yes, you can do that. I do it too with my pine saplings that are in training pots. It's not the size that matters, the mesh is there to prevent soil flushing out of the pot when you water 'm.
