Bring trees out from winter protection? was created by Matte

Hi.

My trees (Ulmus and tropical trees) are placed in a unheated garage. Can I bring them outside or wait?
The weather here is about 8-12 degrees celsius at day and about 1-7 degrees celsius at night.

Thank you in advance.

The ulmus - yeah. Mine is outdoors. Well.. it's never indoors, of course.

The tropicals - no, I don't think so. They may not tolerate these temperatures (depends on the species).

Auk is right, the tropicals (like Ficus, or Powder Puff) need more than 12º C.

I did bring the ulmus trees into a unheated garage (with only one small window) in the autumm, when they lost its leaves. Is it still too cold at night to bring them outside? There is still buds and no leaves on the trees.

How much colder is it outside then your unheated garage?

As said, my elms have been outdoors all winter.

There are guidelines on many sites about low temperature for tropicals. Most of mine want above 50F/10C at night, so I haven't taken them outdoors yet.

The elms and every other local tree have been outside all winter, except for three days when they had all leafed out and temperature dropped to 20F/-7C.
