Please help me identify my tree! was created by jcooke

My boyfriend was gifted a bonsai tree for Christmas and we've been trying to look after it. At first it seemed to go well - new leaves sprouting and looking healthier than the previous ones but recently that's been happening less and more leaves are dropping off. He said he's never even found out which tree it is. I really don't want it to die, so thought I'd ask!
If anyone knows, or has a suspicion, please please reply! :) thanks!

I think it is a Podocarpus but I'm not sure, the photo isn't very detailed. Look up pictures of Podocarpus via Google images and compare to see if it really is one.

It’s a Podocarpus.
Needs plenty of light, but protect it from the burning noon. It likes to be humid but not wet. Don’t takes well if it dries out. They’re terrible as bonsai, but could be fun as plant experiment.
If I’m in your place, I would slip pot it to a colander to save.

*Edit:
