Hi all,
Hope you are well,
I’m writing this message as I’m not sure what to do with the base of my bonsai. I used a small plastic fork to takeaway some old roots so I could see the direction of the larger roots and to style it. My bonsai has many little roots coming to the surface. What do I need to do to keep the bonsai healthy. I came back from a few weeks away and the was a lot of small brown roots which is why I decided to trim it. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your help

Hello, welcome.
It is not my tree, but if it were...
I think it should be in a bigger pot, or a colander, or a grow box.
Soil looks not very appropriate and it needs to grow a lot before being trained as a proper bonsai.
So when the time is right repot it using good bonsai soil and let it recover before doing any further work on it.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. So I will let it grow from now on and water it. So I should repot it in March? Am I right? I have a new pot but where would the new soil cover up to? Does is cover the roots or have some roots showing if it where your bonsai.
As I said before thanks for you helps it’s much appreciated.

You should repot in the Spring, and you can cover the surface roots with the new soil.
