Dwarf Jade? Help Appreciated was created by NJBillyV

I recently bought this beauty ($50) at our local Bonsai greenhouse and was told it's a Dwarf Jade, which is a succulent. So I Bonsai'd it up, cleaned the roots, removed the tap and bottom third of the roots, replanted it in good (fast draining) Bonsai soil, so that's good.

I need advice about the watering though. I've read that a Dwarf Jade requires very little water, but with the fast draining soil it's bone dry after a couple of days. Also, the leaves don't look as plump as I'm accustomed to succulents looking. Is this a Dwarf Jade? Any advice on watering.

Thanks I love this guy and want to take the very best care of him.

This is not a dwarf jade. It is a schefflera, or umbrella tree.

Awesome! Thank you so much for your kind advice, now I got it, it's a Dwarf Schefflera! Apparently not a very good Bonsai Greenhouse, but that's why I came here.

The good news, cool looking plant, love air roots, and it doesn't need a ton of light. I'm going to go home and give it a good soaking so it's happy. I think it'll get wired this weekend, it's nice and flexible so I might get creative, or now.

Thanks again!

Exactly! Do not give it time to acclimatize. Why would you? You paid enough for it right, that'll teach it.

I was wondering if there were pretentious Bonsai ass-hats, thanks for clearing that up for me.

There are. And then there are people who don't know what they purchased from someone who does not know what they are selling but do call it bonsai to gullible people that do not know how to care for the plant let alone know how to wire it and that will kill the poor thing within 3 weeks.

Oh Neptune. Being new here myself I will give you some advice, put it outside, don't do anything to it until next year when it has time to adjust and grow.
