Good morning all. I have been bought a bonsai and firstly, I have no idea what type it is and secondly I’ve had it for a month and it’s growing like a weed BUT dropping brown leaves. I only water it when the soil looks dry. How can I stop the dropping leaves? And can someone please tell me what type it is, so I can research a LOT please please.

I would assume you took it inside for the photos since it says "outdoor bonsai" on the tag. It looks like you are in Uk right? Then it is autum now and all desidious trees drop their leaves. Dont worry, they come back in spring.

Yes, UK. It’s still growing like mad though? I have bought it inside because it’s too cold outside. Do you know what type it is??

Nope i dont know. But unless it is a Tropical species it should be outside year around. If it is a Tropical species, you have purshased some problems for the winter.

Here you can get help finding which species it is:

www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/bonsai-identification

It is not easy to do without looking at the tree. My best guess is privet.

I'd need a better close-up of the leaves, but I'd say Japanese holly / Ilex crenata
