Hi all

I've had my japanese white pine for about 6 months and it has been doing great. As we hit autumn though a LOT (as in around half) of the needles browned and came off to the touch...

Is this normal for autumn and is there anything I should do?

Attached is a picture of the tree as it is now (I.e. minus around half the pines it previously had)

Thanks

Fred

...every pine looses its 3 year old needles in autumn... (might be a good idea to study some general horticulture..?)
What concerns me are the bitemarks from the wire..is that wire still in there?.

Looks healthy to me.
I agree with LucR, the wire has cut it too deep, it's going to take a while for them to disappear. Some years I guess.

Thanks both for the comments, good news that it's looking ok on the needles front

I agree on the wire marks, these were present on the tree when I bought it and there is no wire there, think that's why I got a pretty good price on it...

Hoping I will have the tree for long enough for them to go!

Thanks

The marks are not there because they forgot to remove the wire. It's how they are grown. Taking of the wire before it grows in and carefully rewiring it would take time and reduce profit.

Hope you did not pay such an insane amount for it.
