Can someone please help me identify the tree species? (ref attached)

Very easy to identify, just do a search nd you will find it. Juniper I hope you are not trying to keep it inside, you will kill it if you do

To winter a juniper, dig a hole in your garden and bury it to the nearest to the ground branch then mulch around it. Make sure you give it a drink now and then if the weather is particularly dry, even dormant trees need a bit of water. If planting it outdoors (which is preferred to keep the roots from freezing) isn't possible then you can also place in a garage, basement or shed if there is a window for light or a grow light on a timer to provide 4-6 hours of sunlight minimum. Just don't forget about it if you do place it one of these locations, In spring you can dig it up and repot as its natural bonsai or place back in its usual outdoor space and fertilize with half strength fertilizer. Keeping any evergreen inside during winter will kill it. If it hasn't been for long, no worries its likely fine you can still follow those instructions.

Will it be OK outside in the Northeast US with snow, ice and very cold temperatures?

My junipers deal with -20c night peaks without a problem. Standing in the open no protection. Normal winter temperatures bumping up and down around -5 to -10

Just to clarify, LB, you don't bury the pots either, right?

My junipers are outside, including the young cuttings in small pots, out in the open on my table or bench, always.
