Hi, it's a Podocarpus Macrophyllus (Buddhist Pine).
You can find more info under the "Tree species" section of this site.

Chitlin Buddhist Nunnery in Hong Kong was in the Google results for bonsai so we went there. I had never heard them called Buddhist pine before, but found thousands of podocarpus there. There were a lot of other trees there, including lots of bougainvillea, but podocarpus of every size outnumbered them all.

Hi all!

I don't want to open a new topic so I'll post it here. I got a bonsai myself from Tokyo but have no idea what species is this. Can you please help me too?

Always better to open your own topic.

That's a pine. It will die if kept indoors.

Not sure. What did the seller say it is? What's on the tag?
"Watering and stuff" is pretty much the same for pines. Pruning it is different, but it's going to take loads of time before you can do that.

I haven't met the seller. My parents bring it from Tokyo and one of their friends bought it so no idea. There wasn't any tag on it. :(

I'm going to guess it's a black pine. I can't be sure though.

Nice gift. Keep it alive!
