Not an overview of all my trees. But I did take a picture for someone recently of a section:

And an elm I am working on, just repotted it last week and did some work trying to get roots on the trunk. This is outside all the time:

Some of those look pretty old. I really like the one on the far left of the raised wooden platform, which species is that one?

The Elm looks more than happy for being outside.

Thanks for sharing. :)

I just had a look at some pictures of those Itoigawa Juniper Bonsai's, and what a stunning little tree they are...with a price tag to match. :)

Every ne has their own mixture for soil. Yours should be very well draining because most of the time the tree will get lots of rain. You don't want soil that holds a lot of water. You probably want 1/3 each akadama, lava rock, and pumice, which you can probably order from somebody in the UK premixed. Donaff garden soil because it will retain too much water. In those rare spells in London when it doesn't rain every day you will have to water it when it dries out.
Don't believe the weather predictions. They say rain is coming to fool you into not watering. Even if it rains, check the tree.
For a comparison with London weather 140 years or so ago, read Jerome K. Jerome, Three Men in a Boat.

Yeah they can be expensive. I am lucky, I get to do basic styling of raw ittoigawas for free when I go to one of the traders 'nearby'.

But yeah, this one I bought, maybe 8 years ago as raw stock, Japan import:

Many thanks for the information Ivan.

I still haven't heard back from the company that sold the Bonsai Tree for their advice, so that is pretty poor customer service. :(

At the moment, it is still indoors as I wanted to find out what they said about it, but I have been making sure that it gets plenty of daylight. I also pruned the massively oversized leaves back on the branch to where they were at least a similar size to a majority of the small leaves.

I found the following options for buying some ready mixed soil, and would really appreciate advice on which one people would recommend please:

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193453211230
www.kaizenbonsai.com/premium-bonsai-comp...new-formula-for-2020
www.kaizenbonsai.com/premium-bonsai-comp...new-formula-for-2020

...unless there is another that could be recommended?

The current soil in the pot is nothing like any of those, and really just looks like plain compost to me.

Cheers,

Paul.

Very nice Leatherback. I know you said you got it 8 years ago, but how old is it in total now?

It's a bit like how I consider my age then, old enough to be gnarly and wise, and old enough for it not to matter. :)
