Chinese elm - went 2 weeks without water, doing poorly was created by nedhenry

Hey There,
I have a Chinese Elm that was inside the house and went without water for 2 weeks. All of the leaves and branches are dead but the roots and trunk still have a green cambrium layer. The leaves and dead limbs have been removed and she is just a trunk at the moment. A friend with a lot of bonsai experience is trying to rehabilitate the tree. He said that he has seen bonsais in worse shape than this rebound and recover. I don't really have a question but this tree has priceless sentimental value to me and I guess I am interested to hear how similar situations turned out for others and just looking for hope/ reassurance that it will be able to recover. First pic is before, when she as thriving. The next 2 pictues are after 2 weeks no water.
Thanks!

Is it indoors?
They die inside.

It spent time split between indoors and outdoors...but the last 2 weeks it was indoors only and didn't get watered. If it recovers, should I leave it outside all the time?

Two weeks in the summer, indoors, not being watered is always a very bad combination.
It is very weak at the moment.
Yes, it should be outside at all times.
Put it in the shade now, water as needed (not too much), and pray.

Holy it’s practically dead get a knife and make a little cut to see if it is still green inside. Get a bucket fill it with water and put the plant in their to let it soak for around 3 hours but I’m not quite sure how long so I hope a few experts may correct me in how long it should soak for.

There is not much you can do with a dead plant. Once it is dead it is dead and no amount of soaking will bring it back to life. Drowning for hours will not help.
