I work at a garden centre but know nothing about bonsai trees and have an opportunity to help a bonsai tree out that looked pretty sad and had lost all of its leaves. I have had it home for around 4 weeks and it seems happy enough, started producing green buds/leaf nodes. I do not know what sort it is label says Carmona. But wanted to be sure any advice would be great. I am slightly unsure if the leaves are meant to grow on it so long. But it is in a light space in my house. Do I leave the leaves growing like this to help it adjust from a last trauma it may have been through and prune back at a later date?
I don't know if this leaf growth is normal but any help would be most appreciated how do I get it back to how it should be if it isn't
Thankyou

This is a beautiful tree. They are very rewarding. It should receive sunlight with no direct sunlight for more than 4 hours. Its leaves are always small so is great for bonsai. If water drains well when you water it it will soon explode with branches and leaves (although I live in Central America where is always hot) so take temperature in account. It is also called a Fukien Tea tree.

You don't work much with trees then? This plant has been seriously neglected with very poor light for a long time. This is the reason for loss of leaves. It needs a lot of light and would be better in a greenhouse getting watered and fertilised properly then it might recover.
