Hello,
Yesterday I purchased a Bonsai tree from a small botanist in Vietnam, however I was unable to get the information about the breed of the tree and how old it is (I don't speak Vietnamese and he didn't speak English).

I have attached some photos of the tree.

Could anyone please help tell me to determine what breed of Bonsai this is so that I can get the correct information of how to best take care of it?
I am also curious... is there any way to determine how old this tree might be?

These purple flowers are dying way too quick!

Without knowing the species and how long the flowers has been on it is impossible to tell If they are dying to fast or not. It might just be its natural behaviour. Unfortunately we dont have many people here that can identify tropical species. Have you tried any of the plant identification apps awailable. Sometimes they are supricingly accurate.

Can you recommend any of these apps?

I am in need of help to advise me on the type and age of the bonsai I have as these are left behind by my late father in law. Also like to know what are the maintenance and care required for these.

Google Lens works pretty well. There is also PlantNet on Android.

Congratulations. You have a nice tree. But I have no idea what it is. Nice roots, nice trunk, nice branches, beautiful flowers... Things grow amazingly fast in the tropics, so I have no idea how old it is. In a more moderate climate, growing those roots would take years and years.

It has some scars from major cuts, but I guess those heal quickly in the tropics (?)

Another odd question that I have noticed from observation over the past couple of days of having this Bonasi...
Do plants or flowers like cigarette smoke?

I am a pack a day smoker at the moment and have noticed that the plant is flourishing more on my side where I sit compared to the other side.
Also note the other side gets a lot more sun (and only in the midday onwards).
