Would a Manzanita make a good Bonsai? I love their red bark and look.

Yes.

Manzanita is gorgeous for bonsai. Unfortunately, they are VERY tricky with their roots. So digging a mature species is more fail than success. STart with younger plants from a nursery, and you might get it to work.

But as said, they are dificult with their roots.
