Mimosa bonsai was created by LauraFOlson

I bought a 4 yr old mimosa bonsai about 3 years ago, and it has been healthy and happy. It's about 6" tall and has been kept indoors constantly (I live in Minnesota). A couple weeks ago the leaves drooped, and I thought it needed more water, so I watered it well. The leaves did not recover. The next day I cut it back (it needed pruning anyway). I'd never taken all the leaves off before, but I did this time since they looked dead. It has shown no life at all since then, even tho' I keep watering it. Any ideas? Is it dead? Wish I had taken a pic of it when it was healthy! Thanks.

Hi.
Welcome to the Forum.
I cannot say what happened to your tree, or waht can you do. but some more info could help.

Do you know what kind of Mimosa it is?
Has your tree dropped all its leaves during the past winters?
Did you notice any kind of insects around the tree, lately?

Thanks for the reply! I don't know what kind of mimosa it is; the tag just said "4 yr old mimosa" when I bought it from the Margorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul. It had never dropped its leaves before in the winter. I did not notice any bugs around it. Thanks for your input!

Laura,
Can you post a picture of the tree?
That would be most helpful :)

i might be mistaken, and i hope i am, but i think mimosa are deciduous trees.
Did your tree looked anything like this(leaves and flowers)?

Deciduous trees drop there leaves every year before winter, that's so they go into "dormacy" during cold seasons.
Decidious trees can go 1 sometimes 2 years without this period of dormancy if they are kept in hot places, but its not very healthy.
This could be the reason for your tree's problem.

Again, i could be wrong. Mimosa is not a species i know, i just looked up some stuff on the internet.
You should still wait for the input from someone more experienced.
Good luck with your tree.

Hi Laura,

First of all, let me welcome you to the forum...so glad you could join us! :cheer:

I checked out three different websites for the Mimosa...turns out there are some 400 species. However, I found some decent information along with photos and short videos on one species that is recommended as a house plant commonly known as the Sensitive Plant. It appears to be the same plant Malagaias shared a photo of in the previous post here. Here is the link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimosa_pudica#Description Hope this helps to better identify your tree and perhaps find out what is happening with it. ;)
