Hi all,
I live in Wisconsin. I have my trees in a detached garage, I water them occasionally, and they all seem to be doing well. Attached is a pic of my Hinoki Cypress "Melody", and I just want your opinion on the color of the foliage. Does it look ok to you?
Thanks,
David

Does not look too good, are you watering enough? I check all of my trees every day, watering two or three times a week, depending on how they are drying out.

Thanks for your response. I am getting lots of conflicting advice. Because I live in Wisconsin, and it is really cold right now, In fact, the soil is pretty hard right now. I have been told not to water too much. Thoughts?

When you say the soil is hard do you mean frozen? If it is then you could put some snow on top of the pot so when it thaws it will drain into the pot. I do not get frozen pots so I do not have that problem, but a friend in Canada who does has his trees in a garage and does exactly that. If the tree gets too dry it can kill it.

Looks like normal winter browning to me. Geoff advise on snow is great. It melts when the tree can receive water again. During hard freeze they cannot receive water and they are well adapted to that. If the feezing period is very long, like 6 weeks or more it makes sense to heat up the garage above freezing until the snow is thawed.

Trying the snow advice. Intuitively, it makes a great deal of sense. I'm hoping for the best.
Thanks!!!
