Hi all, for quite some time now i have been wondering about what type of stones are most suitable to place next to a bonsai ( i don't mean Suiseki, but the ones used to decorate/accompany the tree in the pot). I have seen many different ones in bonsai pots of different textures, colors, etc. and i always wanted to know more about them. Does anyone know more about it, and maybe where to get them?

I would say find some your self, some you like and that would fit with your tree, save some money and have some fun.
I collected mine from the beach (like pebbles and bigger ones)......

omg dont get me started on rocks...seriously i have backpacked 160lbs of rocks (i weighed it when i got home)out of a gorge cuz im nuts i have a colection of 100's and if i go somewere on vacation i always bring a rock or 10 home

well there is chinese penjing that reproduces nature (rocks,water and/or small plants in a scene) if that is what you are getting at.japanese traditional bonsai usualy just have moss if anything at all.
i have at least one rock in all of my potted trees . i try to represent something that accompanies the tree to give a feeling of were the tree would grow in nature(a cliff,a meadow,a swamp, an oasis,a place to meditate...)but specifically were to get them, unless you are looking for the penjing type to grow on, my expieriance would say creek and river shorelines that at some point cut through high land.they yeild the most diverse colors shapes and sizes

I brought two rocks back from my trip up to Boston. One is very round and river rock looking the other appears to be smashed granite or quartz.
