(yamadori) crataegus ... was created by jeroen03

in march 2012 i collected a crataegus from the forrest (with permission).
my idea for the styling is a broom or formal upright.
anybody has suggestions on how to realize?
can i replant next spring?

it has some bad wounds on the bottom of the trunk and i can't see nebari. this means i wil have to try repositioning it and make it better. the last picture will become the front, i think.
i had better chose a different one in the forrest. :D still like it though ^^

help me with tips or comments.

Why don't you make a raft style bonsai? www.bonsaiempire.com/progressions/hawthorn-raft

It really looks like your tree you have there! :)

I think broom or formal upright will be very difficult to achieve with this tree.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Raft style looks perfect, all you would need to do is wire the branches more 90 degrees to the main plant.

i am not that certain about a raft style. or is it slanted?
the tree in youri's link is the only raft style crataegus i know of. that is the reason i am doubting the style.

the trunk of my tree is pretty straight and doesnt have much movement like the tree in the link. i know the branches for the smaller trees are at one side so it should be ok. but i was thinkin of cutting em off and start over with new growth. this will be needed if i change the angle to a formal style. (still i am doubting)

they have told me to let the tree grow in ground for two years to rest. this i understand but still im impatient. :D
i am wondering if next year i could saw op the tip of the tree to the desired height, or would that kill it?

and youri why would a formal upright be difficulty for the tree?

The problem I saw was that all branches grow in just one direction, but as you've already mentioned, you can start over again with only the trunk and creating new branches.

This article is written by Harry Harringtion ( www.bonsai4me.com ), famous bonsai artist. I think it will look great in this style, but it's all your choice and personal taste! :)
