Hi everyone! I bought this tree a couple of years ago and NEVER trimmed it. I think it wants to be trimmed, I just don't know where to start. A little help?

If you ask me, I would just popt thiss in a pot and let it grow. These plants are much better suited as a house plant, then as a bonsai. But that is just my opinion of course :D

a total defoliation would give you some nice secondary branching

branches that are cut will root easily too

these make good root over rock trees and can grow into magnificent bonsai it just takes 30 to 40 years :P

with all due respect I think the poster did not have all of his question answered, what type of tree is this?

OneDay21,

Whhy are you digging up old threads? Clearly the person asking questions did not come back to check on the thread. FYI: It is a so-called uymbrella tree, Schefflera arboricola
