I bought a ulmus parvifolia a week ago and i had an idea for using bubblerap as an isolation material for in the winter. I keep my bonsai in a unheated greenhouse, the winters here can be cold but usually no colder than -5 degrees Celsius i believe. you all think my bonsai will be ok?

it has got 5 layers on the bottom and 6 or 10 layers wrapped around it.

Strange that your ulmus didn't went into dormancy by now. It should have. Did you kept it indoors for a while?

Anyway, i cannot say whether or not your tree wil be safe now. It depends on more factors than jus the temprature inside the pot. Trees in good draining mixture that are kept out of the sun and out of the wind kan upstand up to -20 when the soil is dry. However, trees in wet ground in the ful sun and wind can die in temperatures of -4. Any bubblewrap won't do any good in that situation.

Don't think all that insulation is really necessary but if you're happier with it... just make sure water can still drain out freely.

i boughy it at a garden centre late november, in the store they kept all the bonsai warm and moist. Later i found out that it should already be in dormancy.
Last night it froze -7 degrees Celsius and the soil is a bit hard now. So i'm gonna place it closer to the house i think.

Hope the tree survived that. Moving a green tree from a heated greenhouse into -7 is enough to kill trees.. move is to an unheated room where very low termperatures are available, or in a garage with windows as long as it has not entered dormancy
