So my friend brought me some bamboo from a festival last weekend, and I had this azalea branch laying in the trash from some pruning I did to one of my trees the day before... The bamboo came in a plastic bag with water and root hormone. The root hormone was a clear jelly like substance but I have no idea what it is. But I grabbed the azalea branch, stripped the bark, wrapped it in sphagnum moss and put it in the bag the bamboo came in. It's been about 8 days now and the branch has shown NO signs of dying, at all. My question is.. Is it working!? If so, I'd be really thrilled. I'm still new to bonsai and I haven't tried cuttings or air layering yet and just thought this would be awesome! This azalea is an evergreen species. I think there even actually a new bud that wasn't there before. But I'm not sure if it was already there or not. Thanks!!

eight days? Give it time! Six months would be good

Ok thanks!. I'm not looking for roots this soon or anything I just didn't know how long it would take for a branch to die.

Trees can fool you. I had been working on rooting a couple of Oak cuttings for about 2 months. They actually budded out and had new leaves for several weeks. A couple of days later they died off and when I pulled them up there was no rooting whatsoever. I think the tree was just using the reserved energy to bud and once that was depleted, the tree died. Long story short, just because it looks healthy now doesn't necessarily mean it is. Just give it some more time to see for sure.
