I have been reading about bonsai for years and always wanted to attempt my hands at the tree. I recently purchased 3 J red maples to create a bonsai the main trunk is 8 to 10 inches tall. I immediately transferred the seedlings into 1 gallon pots with well draining potting soil.
My question is should I let them grow in the pot for the summer to establish healthy roots or move ahead and start working the seedling into a bonsai pot?

Yep. For at least 5 years.
