First of all I would like to greet you all fellow members. My name is Irfan and I'm currently staying in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I red 4-5 books on Bonsai and decided to give it a try. First tree I bought is Water Jasmine (Wrigtia Religiosa if I'm not mistaken). Tree looks pretty young (judging by the trunk tho branches look well developed).
I would like to know which style could I persue, how can I increase the trunk size, and most important of all (I'm originally from Europe - continental climate) I don't understand how tropical climate works and when can I prune the tree and when do trees blossom in tropical conditions. Second thing I'd like to know is how to prune and how to force branches to grow and bud nearer to trunk. Right now this tree looks like Pierneef style which does not really please my eye so I was wondering can anyone give me some easy advice on how to change it to informal upright or broomish style. I have this tree for like a week now and it seems like it's doing very good, but I don't understand will the tree stop shooting if i leave it in this pot or i need to reppot to a bigger pot. Suggestion of the trees face would be awesome too because this tree doesn't look similar to those in textbooks and I don't know for what to look for.
Also I started couple of cuttings of ficus but I only have clayish soil at the moment (same one a parent plant is growing in) and I was wondering will it be able to root inside it or I should just keep it in water.
Thank you very much in advice and please if u can advice me on something I did not ask (coz i didn't realise it yet) please do.
