A rescued tree needing identification please was created by Karin

This plant has been outside in 0 C temps for a week and was very dry. Don't know what it is and former owner said it has steadily been dropping leaves for months and she was tired of dealing with it. What is it and what should I do to try and salvage it?

There is only a hope for eternal salvation left now.
It is in mallsai heaven already.
Or a bonsai hell, where real bonsai trees are going to take the piss out of it for eternity for being a mallsai.
Or not even mallsai.
It was born with original sin of being grafted, and as a man, it had to pay for it for the god is good.
Peace be with it.

To that, I'd like to add:

It's passed on!
This bonsai is no more!
It has ceased to be!
It's expired and gone to meet its maker!
It's a stiff!
Bereft of life, it rests in peace!
If they hadn't nailed it to the pot it'd be pushing up the daisies!
It's metabolic processes are now history!
It is off the twig!
It's kicked the bucket, it has shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleeding choir invisible!!
THIS IS AN EX-BONSAI!!
