I've had a black thumb for a long time. When I found out I was moving to California, I jumped for joy. I can keep succulents! Woo! Houseplants that don't die! (Pretty much.) Well, when I got to Cali, I picked up more than just succulents. My boyfriend picked out a lovely Bonsai from Home Depot. He has been sitting near our West facing window (the only one we have) for about six months. (The Bonsai tree, not the boyfriend.) This morning, I was looking up how to care for my new succulent when I looked over at the Bonsai tree and had a strange thought. Hadn't my grandfather had Bonsai trees........ and didn't he spend hours trimming and caring for them? Suddenly I felt pretty bad. My Bonsai looks kind of wilt-y. I did some quick Googling but couldn't find what kind of Bonsai it is. I also got mixed messages on whether I should be trimming the guy or not. He seems super fluffy, but I'm not sure if he's supposed to be that way.
Can anyone help identify my Bonsai tree, and tell me how to trim him?
PS- I read something that said I can't use scissors to trim him. How bad is it if I use scissors? I really don't feel like spending a lot of money on special trimmers. My new succulent plant was already a splurge I shouldn't have afforded.
All advice and feedback is appreciated. Thank you!
