Depending on how long ago you move it to the outside it could be environmental shock. Things like temperature fluctuations, lighting fluctuations, or humidity fluctuations could cause it to loose it leaves. Chinese Elms are hardy plants and great for beginners. Just let it rest and recover by keeping it out of direct afternoon-evening light, and water only when the top of the soil is dry. A little liquid fertilizer once every 1-2 weeks wouldn't hurt either.
