In our Spring, by the end of September, will happen a traditional bonsai event that is held twice a year in São Paulo.
Besides the exhibit, there are many other activities such as:
Introductory bonsai courses, plants (pre-bonsai and bonsai), pots and tools sellers, a contest where each contestant gets a mid-size juniper very similar to each other and in three hours the best stylised tree (with jin and shari included) wins, and a lot of chatting and gossiping.
I've been there a few times. It's small comparing to the big shows in Europe or the USA, but plenty of interesting tropicals, some VERY good deals on high quality pottery (
Shugo Izumi
and
Sergio Onodera
, for instance), but as said, the show itself is modest (30 or 40 trees, mostly tropicals, but good trees).
Ah, the Botanical Gardens in SP is an AMAZING place, really beautiful.
If you happen to be in São Paulo at the time, I will be glad to take you there.
