Help needed with a dying tree was created by hmjedi

I have a deciduous bonsai, bought as a present two years ago. I’ve never had any issues with just watering it when dry and feeding it every few weeks. However, over the past few weeks, a thin white mild looking substance is covering the soil, all of the leaves have dropped and there is a light brown fluff growing where the leaves used to grow. I have searched online to what issues this may be but have had zero luck. Any help would be much appreciated

Looks like close death to me. Is that Carmona? Pictures are not too good, sorry.

Sorry, but I coincide with spacewood. That tree seems like a gonner to me.

what species is this tree. if its a deciduous tree they lose all their leaves for dormancy (winter). i have a bougainvillea that is now just starting to bud and the buds look just like that. brown and fluffy, they took about a week or 2 to open up due to a small cold storm that passed through but once the sun came back out it started to blossom. i dont know if this is kept indoors but i would consider maybe placing it outside.

what water do you use to water it. how hard is the water. i see the same buildup on your humility tray. it may be calcium from your water.

a clear picture of the over all tree might help .

I'd say it's dead.
