Hello there,

After repotting my tree a month ago, last week I decided to give it some fertilizer I received from the guy who helped me. I am checking my tree 3/4 times a day and today I happened to see some larvae chilling out on the pieces of fertilizer. The guy told me that every time i water the tree, the solid fertilizer will expand and sunk in the soil but unfortunately there were some pieces that were holding on strong so I decided to leave them there for future watering.

At the moment, the only desperate solution I came up with was to spray some pesticides, fungicides and acaricides. If you happened to have the same problems with your trees please let me know how can I solve this issue!

If they don't eat trees, only the organic pellets, don't worry so much.

Thank you Clicio, you took a weight off my heart! I got scared because yesterday none of them were in the soil and this morning BOOM. Indeed 70% of what I extracted from the soil were dead already but I removed all the pellets leftovers and sprayed the soil and tree. I was simply afraid they might attack the trunk or roots. Thank you once again!!

Looks Phorid fly larvae, which have thousands of species. Yours feasting on decaying material what is good sign, cause probably won’t attack the living plant.

Hi Rong, yes I have had a similar problems with my juniper and olive trees. After feeding them with BioGold for the first time (in the past I used to feed with liquid fertilizers) the pellets did not wash out quickly and gnats appeared, as I wrote in another post.
At the Bonsai Centre they told me it is quite normal being organic (my soil on the other hand is 100% akadama, so inorganic).
After about 1 month I have now removed the leftovers, the gnats reduced and nothing bad has happened to the trees.
I am now switching back to liquid (little bit stronger, according to the Bonsai Centre's advice) - next year I'll try Clicio's method, wrapping pellets in teabags.

Thank you Felidae and Ricky!

Indeed as I was cleaning the soil of larvae I was thinking about Clicio's method with the teabags as well. I have seen a video from Mirai Bonsai a few days ago and they used the same trick with the teabags. I still have a full bottle of liquid fertilizer that I was thinking to use from now on so I am more than happy to hear you've been given the same pieces of advice.

Thanks everybody for being so responsive to my post!

Oh so not even teabags can't hold them in place huh? Well then I believe is a part of the nature we have to put up with every time we use pellets

No!
They do hold the BioGold inside.
What's outside is the Osmocote Plus, but I never had problems with those being out of the bags.

Oh no, what I meant was that not even teabags can't hold the larvae inside. It seems like even you are facing the same problem as me even tough you used that extra protection (teabag)
