Let me see about this. Right now the benches are cinder blocks with wood tops. It will take some work to do this, particularly since one huge problem is mosquitoes.

There are only a couple of trees with ant problems. Maybe I can set just those in trays.

I do not have them with water barriers myself. I find that regular checks of my trees work fine. Every once in a while I have a tree with aphids. I clean that tree, check 2 days later and usually the problem is gone. And with it, the ants.

Problem solved. I took a banged up baking dish my wife had discarded, put a large unused pot in it upside down, filled the baking dish with water, put the two insect ridden trees on it, and they are now isolated from the ants. I have to empty the water out to get the mosquito larvae every couple of days. We'll see if I remember without being bitten.

Problem not solved.

There is no path to the leaves except through water, and here is a bunch of eggs and some bugs on a leaf that weren't there before I put the pot in the water barrier. Worse than that, the picture is about seven hours after I sprayed with safer soap this morning.
