I recently got a new japanise maple bonsai. The grower kept it outside and I am now keeping it inside. I found a few cream coloured insects on it. Is this normal considering it was previously keapt outside?

Did the grower give you care instructions for the Japanese Maple? Do you have pictures? Why are you keeping it indoors as opposed to outdoors? How often are you watering it and how do you check when it needs water?

Japanese Maples should be kept outdoors. How long was it kept indoors? I assume just a short period of time since it was recently purchased. I would begin by moving it outdoors and posting some pictures.

There is no way you can keep it or most species inside and keep them alive. What the insects are no idea, but you need to learn how to look after any tree before you buy it. Check for watering every day, and water when needed. We need a picture to see what is happening and it is quite useful to know where you are.

Hi thank you for responding.
I am a complete beginner and just bought my first bonsai. I bought two larch a Japanese maple and a Chinese elm. Which can I keep inside? I know I should keep them outside but I have a small garden and never go out in it. I’m pretty sure I’m watering it correctly.

Many thanks,
Skingo12

None of them. The larch and maple will not survive indoors. The Elm may live, but will not do well enough to do bonsai.

Ok thank you.
The bonsai seller said to keep the trees outside but the chinise elm could stay inside. It’s a shame as my garden is almost non existent. Also What would you recommend for going oh holiday and watering? (Also the insects have seemed to disappear)

Many thanks,
Skingo12

take them with you, or get someone to water for you. Don not expect to be alive if you leave them for a week.
