I am new to bonsai care and can't find the problem I see on my Ficus Ginseng in the posts so far- any help as to how to care for this issue would be greatly appreciated. New leaves appear as healthy and green and quickly get the white coating. They are not falling off or progressing any further- just unsighltly and unhealthy looking.

That is a serious infestation possibly red spider mite check under the leaves for tiny creatures. That has been there a long time not just a few days or even weeks

Btw, that is really not a bonsai, you probably will get better help in a common houseplant forum...

IF it is spider mite. I'm not sure. I don't see webs and the OP says it's powdery stuff.
People with knowledge of house plant diseases may be better able to help.

For bugs, you can do the white paper test.
- Put a white a4 paper under the leafs, tap and shake the brances.
- Then lay down the paper, put your hand flat on the left side of the paper, and move your hand to the right.
- If there are stripes on the paper, then there are bugs.

Perhaps it also could be powdery mildew.
The white stuff comes off, can you clean it a bit off?
Is it also present at the bottom side of the leafs?

Can you make a close up picture of both side of the leafs?

Yes, it has been a while as I t hought it was either watering or sun related- either too much or too little of either and was trying to adjust. As I said, I am new to house plants in general, and this was sold as a bonsai. I looked with a magnifying glass underneatht the leaves and didn't see any indication of mites or other pests. Maybe they are too small to see. Is there anything I can do at this point?

If you say it had to mutch sun. Do those leafs feel "paper like" because that is a sign of sunburn.
