Hello!

I have two bonsai trees that have been struggling the last couple months. A Golden Gate Ficus and a Mount Fuji Serissa.

The Serissa's leaves are slowly, 5-6 leaves/day turning brown at the tips and falling off.

The Ficus's leaves are turning just slightly yellow and falling off (3-5 leaves/day)

There is still new growth so they are not leaf-less, but they're getting pretty thinned out.

Initially, I found thrips and assumed that was the cause. Got rid of the thrips and now a month later they haven't improved much. I thought maybe they're not getting enough light (they're in a west-facing window but their are a lot of trees so not an ideal amount of light). So I got a grow light and placed that over them as well. So far no improvement.

I am very careful to water just when the soil is almost dry so I don't believe under or over watering is an issue. They thrived for about 9 months prior to this issue and I've watered the same way this whole time. They are in high quality Bonsai soil and appropriately fertilized.

Photos attached. Any ideas would be appreciated!

This is what they looked like when they were healthy for comparison.

Pretty sure I figured it out. Decided to look at the leaves with my camera all the way zoomed in (since I don't own a microscope or magnifying glass) and discovered hundreds of microscopic yellow bugs. Did a search and I'm pretty sure they're spider mites. Upon closer inspection I discovered a few fine little webs further confirming that. Sprayed my trees today. Looks like I'll have to spray them every 3-5 days until the little pests are gone. Hopefully my trees recover quickly!

Hope they are gone. Spider mites infested my English ivy and misting them with water frequently up to 4 times a day seems to do the trick. just worried they gone to hibernation and may come back :(
