Hello,

I have a ficus that am currently attempting to grow as a bonsai tree. As far as the research I've been caring for it properly but he is losing leaves at an alarming rate. They turn a light green/yellow and simply fall off. It happens, like, a whole branch at a time. I'm very worried, he's running out of leaves...

Are you in the northern hemisphere where fall is approaching?

Where is the tree placed? What is your care regime?

I am indeed in the northern hemisphere. When this first started happening I immediately thought it was a response to the seasons changing so I moved him from the drafty window and provided some artificial light. It seemed to stop it at first but now the problem continues. I water him regularly, as far as I know I have been doing it properly. I have fertilizer that I provide about every two weeks and he is in soil designed for those types of plants. Most of the research I did, I did on this sight. Every time I think I have it under control he loses more leaves. I'm frankly at a loss. Since I'm new to this I thought I'd ask some more experienced people.
Edit: I should add that he is still growing new leaves but unfortunately he's losing them faster than he can grow them.

I dont grow ficus myself. But I have seen similar topics serveral times. Allways in fall about the same time as central heating kicks in in our homes. I personally think that this tropical tree dont like the lower humidity that central heating causes.

You can check herons bonsai, Peters upload on youtube about indoor trees. His ficuses also loose a lot of leaves during fall and winter. In his conditions they all make it thrue.

Edit: I checked out that channel and he said my particular type of Ficus can lose all of it's leaves in winter. Thank you soooooooo much. I was freaking out.
