White worms in my pellet fertilizer was created by cest_bon

Have been adding the fertilizers in pellet forms for the past 4-5 months, changing them out once every month. Recently (this morning actually), I noticed some worms crawling on the surface of the soil. I removed them with a clean cotton bud and was trying to track down the source or unearth more... I noticed some of them crawling on the surface of the fertilizer basket. I removed it and saw a lot of the same worms crawling around the pellet. I broke it up with my hands and saw they were all crawling out of the pellet from within. What is happening, and what should i do?

fertilizer attracts all sorts of animals and insects may lay their eggs in them. Not much you can do. You can consider using fertilizer baskets which might reduce the issue. I have decided to accept that some larvea live in the pot. Worst part of it that in cerrtain parts of the year, birds come looking and start digging.

The larvea itself are not a problem for the tree.

Thanks for the reply. I have readily removed all the visible worms, as well as the fertilizer basket fearing that they might be caterpillars which will feed on the leaves and sap of my bonsai.

I guess organic fertilizer? They will need to decompose before beeing awailable to the tree. Worms or maggots that feed on it helps that process very effeciently.

Thanks for the advice. Was afraid because I had used the pellets for the past few months and this is the first that works emerged.
