Friday this tree was fine. All the leaves were green.

Yesterday we had rain all day, at least 8"/20 cm. There was a container that tall that was full of water, and I had emptied it about 4:00, so it there was enough rain to fill it.

This morning most of the leaves were purple, about 10:30. At 2:00 all of the purple was brown, dried, and crinkled.

I pulled it out of the pot and there is a slight smell that may be root rot. Could root rot pop up this fast? The pot has two large holes and the soil mix is akadama, lava, pumice, the same as four or five other elms from the same seed batch, but it looks soaked now.

I think plan is

1. Slip pot into a better pot
2. Put it in partial shade for a while
3. Pay attention to drainage for a while
4. Don't touch it next spring

More on the plan?
