Normally I develop my own material or go for garden centre stock - but bought some 'bonsai material' as love the trunk of this japanese yew. I can see real potential as a semi cascade with some shari to emphasise the trunks curves, and first styling planned for end of winter, with carving to flat 'cut' point....

My question is about the branches as the currently most developed ones all break rules... '1' could be pulled down to fill space on left, but crosses trunk. '2' is too straight - I am trying to bend... '3' is opposite '4', but '1' looks like it is opposite '4' due to angle... I may be tempted to use all existing branches (apart from '4') as potential deadwood and develop new finer branch structure as currently backbudding profusely but just wonder what others think and see here...? Am i missing something? Worrying too much about 'rules'?
