this is an air layer i took 2 years ago from my foemina Juniper (mother tree progression link below) www.bonsaiempire.com/forum/progressions/...-progression?start=0 the mother tree is approximately 18-20 years old, the plan is a formal upright with small pads. im planning on keeping it pretty small in an extremely shallow pot. minimal wiring was done this last spring to bring the branches down but happy were it going so far.

About ready for a pot, looking to go into a colander for some root structure, will see what the root system looks like when the time comes. First major structural wiring done this past autumn. Thoughts?

Are you sure it needs to go into a colander? Would a move into a nice pot not be possible?
I'm not quit sure what the root system looks like as its only been 2 years since I've removed it from the mother tree. my goal if roots allow is to put it in a extremely shallow rectangle pot. i will have the shallow pot in hand when my repot season comes so if roots allow it will definitely go into a shallow pot.
Glad to report the tree took the repot very well and looks to be healthy. Still looking to go a little more shallow on the pot in the future. The pot i had purchased for it was not wide enough so still looking around for a new one. im pretty excited for the next repot as it should look refined by then. still have not pruned since the repot either.
