Here is a Tamarack I collected yesterday. This one jumped out at me as soon as I saw it. Tamarack (larix) around here tend grow very straight and take a long time to show age on their bark so most are silvery and sort of uninteresting for bonsai (IMO). They are also a bit more challenging to collect than the Black Spruce here since they tend to have deep tap roots and very little in the way of feeders near the trunk. So even if I find a great looking tree, its often not possible to collect without root enhancement techniques applied to them over the course of a few years... which is fine but its possible with patience and luck to find something beautiful, healthy and collectable!I'll keep the thread updated as things progress. For now enjoy the photos of the collection process.
