I have the semi cascade (at least thats what I have been attempting to do. Any thoughts on pruning it this spring. I have been looking at it all winter and scratching my head. Any input is appreciated. Ive had this guy for 5 years and survived a repotting as a greenhorn. Just dont know what would be the best look.

I would not do any styling at this point. The tree needs to grow and increase trunk size.

Is this tree being kept in a greenhouse, or unheated shed, as i see that it is winter outside now, but the tree seems like it was not exposed to the winter?

I live in the northern reaches of WI. It was -20 here this morning. For that reason I bring it in during the winter. I have learned through several failed trees that a huge humidity tray and daily misting is key. So, it has done well in my living room over the last 4 winters despite the dry heat from my Wood stove.

I asked because 99,9% of the people that buy a Juniper and keep it indoor's for a few months, later come ask for help because the color of the foilage is fading away, and the juniper is then already death for a few weeks/months. Your color of the juniper looks good now, almost if it was hiding in a greenhouse for a while.
I have friends with a wood stove in there living room, but every winter most of there houseplants die because of the great heat/drynes swings inside the room.
If it worked for 4 years then don't brake the habits.
Did you never prune this tree in the last 4years?

I have done alright with plants through the winter. I have a humidifier as well that puts 6 gallons into the air every day. I keep the humidity at 45-50% which I think helps...despite the condensation I get on my windows. - I think it does well, I even get a few new buds through the winter.

I have done some pruning and and wiring to get it to where it is today. Ive attached some more photos of its progression. Looking at the photos, its been 6 years that I have had it now. Ive asked a local guy who owns a greenhouse for advise which helped with the changes Ive made; however, I have never went as far as asking for help from someone with experience with Bonsai or juniper trees. So, I appreciate any help or guidance from this group! This is really a terrific resource!

Just curious, if I let it grow, how to I regain the desired aesthetic a few years down the road? If it is left unpruned will the trunk grow faster? Ive really been flying by the seat of my pants, but Ive grown fond of the hobby now. I will probably get a few more this spring. I just dont want to ruin this one after weve come so far!

I prune the new growth on my junipers in mid summer to promote ramification and to keep it compact. In spring I do major styling and repotting if needed. But I keep my tree outdoors at all times, protected when it gets below minus 10 degrees. Never ever in living room conditions, that kills junipers here.
