Oh, i see what you mean about the flies, they look a lot like mozies . Haha, I laughed when you said mug is dutch for mosquito, the dutch must find it quite funny (pomies drinking out of a mosquito)...

Normally you can get rid of them by letting the soil in your plants dry out; The larvae don't survive a few days in dry soil. Problem with my situation was: After the pulling I did on this plants, the ficus were so weak I did not dare to let them dry out completely

Ya i also have that problem where im trying to propagate plants by cuttings and you cant give the soil a chance to dry out.

I just read that cinnamon is a good way to get rid of fungus gnats, you just sprinkle a little bit on the surface. Another trick is to put some raw potato on the surface and remove it after a few days. Apparently the larvae go crazy for potato, and most of them would have crawled into the potato.

Haha both methods sound a bit strange but im going to give them both a try before a go and by an insecticide.

i dont know what are you talking about guys but i think a go0d solution for that problem is use alternative...here in the philipines instead of using soil as planting midea for ficus tree, i use limestone rock, sand and old pasta pan(no drainage holes). Jast fill with sand the pan and pot water then plase the limestone rock with a fecus planter on it...dont worry you can make hole on that rock due to soft properties of it. because let as always remember that the ficus are aer grown plants...

haha now that's alternative potting. It must work quite well in your environment. If used a pot without drainage holes, im pretty sure it would grow lots of algae where i live. I tried the cinnamon, i think it worked. Im using a fungicide now, i brought it from my local bonsai club, seems to be doing the trick
